May I ask why you tried KDE 4.0? Why don't you go with 4.8? Somewhen in the
past the systemsettings maintainers spent a lot of time in improving the
layout. I am sure you could benefit from this work and not try to audit it
again. It's just an idea to save you some time.

*sigh* You don't have to "do better than KDE4". If you do better, please
upstream your changes. Please realize that you are not in competition with
KDE.
