I would think that should be possible. Most distros have KOffice split into components in their package managers, e.g. KWord and Kexia, with each requiring KOffice Core for the base functionality provided to all KOffice apps. They'll also normally include a meta-package that pulls in the entire KOffice.

I have yet to build any KDE components, so I can't say for sure if this is actually doable, but it should be, and I'd imagine that you'd start out with KOffice Core (considering you already have all the other deps built).

I think many end-users would appreciate that but so would anybody who builds the packages. Koffice is huge. A single failure in one component kills the entire build. Building Koffice on my dual core requires almost two hours. I can only imagine people trying to build on older hardware.

If the idea is doable I'll submit an enhancement request.
