In the original, I like how the headline and the appropriate box for each are 
optically closed. I also like that the background color of boxes matches the 
color of the background that the user has set. The new proposal for me it 
lacks both.

Yes, the spacing is bigger than the original theme. It was even bigger in the kubuntu theme, so I already reduced it a lot.
I don't see it as a replacement for the default theme; only as another theme available in the list. The default theme is already good.

I like how different your screenshot is from mine. It show how much potential TDE has for theming. Were you a previous BeOS/Haiku user?
