Pardon the top posting -- power's out due to a storm (not the hurricane), so I'mon an iPad with the ProtonMail application.

There's also a notifier in Plasma, which might be usable in TDE. In my experience it's really annoying, popping up after one does apt update, but it might fit the need if someone really wanted it. (I have it on the machine that won't runTDE and haven't killed it yet.)

You could check your /var/log/apt/... which usually goes back a
year to see if you can figure out which package got uninstalled
during the updgrade.

My guess would be package-update-indicator which is from Gnome
but works with other desktops.
