I'm using Jaunty KDE 3.5 Remix 64-bit and I do not have this problem. In fact, I customized my LiveCD with reconstructor so that krusader would be preinstalled. Running krusader in regular and root mode the settings are there. I'd bet it's something wrong with your install. Try deleting both .kde and .kde3 from your home directory to see if that fixes it. You haven't been messing with kubuntu-default-settings have you?

I'm using Jaunty/KDE 3.5 remix (64-bit).

First I copied my krusaderrc from my previous installation. But even if I
remove the krusaderrc and start krusader the problem remains.

Maybe the problem is only related to 64-bit.
