There are ways to add back the missing pieces 
They talk about it in their FAQ. https://q4os.org/dqa011.html#desktop.10  
You can also remove the configuration files to get a standard menu back.

Well, yeah, though I haven't seen it yet, I don't feel like wanting a system
configured like that either. That's for their target group supposably. Anyways,
I hope it helps keeping TDE alive!
