Do I have a deja-vu here? I recall to have a similar discussion some
time ago.

    -  short answer: because it works[1]

    -  long answer: I only find LTS releases acceptable.

However 12.04, a natural choice, suffers from bug which concerns «xpdf»
and is not acceptable for me.

     xmms, or mgdiff or even matlab version 2008. Besides this I have to
     say that some authors of free or non-free software tend to violate
     the 11th commitment: thou shalt not break backwards compatibility.

     trapped with old thinkpad models since Lenovo deliberately replaced
     its best feature: its keyboard by a far inferior one.
