The behaviour of the battery indicator is different in KDE4 and in TDE.
On KDE4, you can right-click on the notification area to choose what it to be shown, but on TDE, these programs has to be started seperately.

If I remember well, kpowersave (or tdepowersave) has the same behaviour as kmix.
To see it the first time, it has to be started from the K menu, then it should show up in the notification area.
After that, it should be there at the following reboots.
