I just upgrade (new installation) from Kubuntu 10.04 to 14.04,
I followed the instructions as found in
https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/UbuntuInstall
however I obtained the following error (after a while)
Errors were encountered while processing:
  /var/cache/apt/archives/kubuntu-default-settings-trinity_4%3a14.0.3-0ubuntu14.04.0+0_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

what can I do?

I looks to me like if you substitute kubuntu-default-settings-trinity where you read google-chrome-stable on http://askubuntu.com/questions/688338/e-sub-process-usr-bin-dpkg-returned-an-error-code-1-related-to-google-chrom you may solve your problem.

the problem is that kubuntu-default-settings-trinity is not installed, in fact it cannot be installed. So there are now traces left of this package I could delete.

it seems that the package is in conflict with kubuntu-default-settings, but i don't know how to proceed.
