Have you installed emerald-kde3?
How are you attempting to enable Emerald? Does the rest of Compiz work
properly?
At the moment, -kde3 compiz and emerald cannot be installed
simultaneously with non-kde3 compiz and emerald due to bug 57
(http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=57). That bug is
next on my list of problems to deal with.
