Something's wrong with your setup, I can do that. Been able to, for as long as I've used KDE 3.

Why not just do select the text you want, then to where you want to past the
text and and click with the middle button, scroll wheel, whatever.

One of the things that drives me mad in Windows is all that unnecessary ctrl+c
or v nonsense.
