yes.

I expect at some point one or the other will continue to exist. Given one (xorg) seems to be hell bend on EOL asap, I do not think it will  be xorg down the road.

From distribution perspective its very inefficient , because then you 
will be responsible for maintenance of  2 biggest code bases, at the 
moment i and my company can support only one.
