OpenSuse KDE3 people resolve this problem?
No, they build HAL just as I do for Ubuntu.
Looks like they have udisks2 support:

I think I was not clear enough. ;-) What I mean is
if
you double-click on the device icon, does TDE mount the device? If not, is
an error generated?
I'll have to test more methodically to record exact sequences of events and messages.
Remember that in order to use pmount on certain
distributions your user needs to be part of a certain group on the system.

Users are members of the plugdev group. I also tested as root with the same results.
