I'd like to see it happen now, or for the next release. Faster
cleaning begins, the better.
Simply not going to happen. What I want to see for the next release are
bug fixes for user-visible problems that actually affect daily operations.
Build system problems can usually be worked around (once) by the
distribution maintainer and are therefore lower priority simply by virtue
of the lesser number of people affected.

Another thing, shouldn't automake files be removed
form
components
that have been ported to CMake. Since autotools-based
compiling aren't
really supported for those...
I'm sure that will happen eventually.
