From the command line the ps command, with the correct arguments,
pipped to grep with name of the process as greps argument should work
for any version of Linux.
If you want to use the trinity GUI then ksysguard, using the "Process
Table" tab and putting the process name in the search bar will show
you nothing if it is not running and lots of info if it is.
