Simple fact is, the official KDE 3.5.10 sources
have broken shadows when
the compositor is turned off. That was the main reason for the commit,
which I did in fact test and it did make the shadows work better on my
test systems compared to the stock KDE 3.5.10 sources.
Also note the differences in the nodes in the tree. In my case they are
pluses, and in your case they are arrows.
Since the last version of KDE3 in Debian was KDE 3.5.9, and Trinity is
based on the Debian version with Ubuntu patches,
I suspect that Trinity is based on KDE 3.5.9 release.
