I can't find any apps that depend upon mlt. Is mlt something we want to maintain?

mlt++ :)
MLT = Media Lovin' Toolkit
Seriously - I don't know. I just built the thing because it was part of the GIT tree that should either be working, or fixed or nuked. A rendering engine is a good thing as long as something uses it. IMHO, cinelerra is the only non-liner editor to use (kino is great for rough cuts).
Since it builds, I don't see any reason to nuke it. The project is still active:
http://www.mltframework.org/twiki/bin/view/MLT/
and seems to be fairly rich in features:

The big concern would be how current is the stuff in the GIT tre. According to the GIT tree it is version 0.2.5 WHICH WAS RELEASED IN 2007!!!
THERE HAVE BEEN --> 24 <-- RELEASES SINCE THAT TIME. If this is accurate - the we need to either update the source to version 0.7.8, See:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mlt/files/mlt/
Direct download:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/mlt/mlt/mlt-0.7.8.tar.gz
I just built mlt 0.7.8 on tqt3 from git and it worked fine. The code should be uploaded to git.
TDE == NO OLD CODE!!
