Thank you for your reply. I hope that the development team at Trinity will grow and that KDE3 become THE desktop (windows manager) reference in the future!
I installed KUbuntu 10.10-trinity-entreprise and it initially failed. As I guessed the existence of a problem with XWindows, I installed an old ATI graphics card (automatically replacing the controller "onboard")** Everything run fine after this "replacement".
I am surprised because there is a "pserru" user and a "pserru" group! But a "users" group too!!!
I did not understand everything (because I do not remember the exact circumstances): I was in tty1 (I mean the console by default, Ctrl+Alt+1) when the system offered an update... that I stupidly accepted! The system played alone a few hours. There have been mistakes. And finally, I was unable to restart.
Remember: I just was an OSS 10.3 user, this is to say that I do not know Ubuntu. I must admit that a single user password does not enchant me. But hey: it's the choice of Debian and have to deal with it. I modified fstab. But I'm not sure that it works as expected: A partition has been mounted as /home, but it is not, as you can see in the screenshot attached which shows a part of the result Displaying of the cat "/etc/mtab" in a console, left, and "System Settings ("Disk & Filesystems ") on the right. About this picture, I got a crash when I clicked on the image from Konqueror to verify its contents. It was told to repport the error at "http://bugs.kde.org" in addition to the message "This call stack appears to be unusable. This is probably because your package was built from a manner that prevents the creation of correct call stacks, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the incident."...
Opening dialogues or registration seems to "remember" the adjustment of window size, but not preferences, such as the presentation in list or icons ...
I have not succeded starting kate nor kwrite as "root" to edit "/etc/fstab" for example, even by typing "sudo /opt/kde3/bin/kate &". For me, VI is good for troubleshooting only!
At the start of office, I accepted the display "soft" fonts. It seems to me that it is not applied everywhere. Again, look at the attached picture.
Note, in full view of the image, the partition 3 is the extended partition ...

Je n'ai pas tout compris (car je ne me souviens pas des circonstances exactes): j'était dans TTY1 (je veux dire la console par défaut) quand le système m'a proposé une mise à jour... j'ai stupidement accepté! Les dialogues d'ouverture ou d'enregistrement semble se "souvenir" de l'ajustement de la taille de la fenêtre, mais pas des préférences, comme la présentation en liste ou par icônes...
Je n'ai pas réussit à lancer kate en "root", pour éditer "/etc/fstab" par exemple, même en tapant "sudo /opt/kde3/bin/kate &". Pour moi, VI est bon pour le dépannage seulement!
Au démarrage du bureau, j'ai accepté l'affichage "doux" des polices de caractères. Il me semble que ce n'est pas appliqué partout. Là encore, regardez l'image jointe.
Notez, á la vue de l'image, que la partition 3 est la partition étendue...
