I want to do a little personal reflection, as a
constructive
criticism. As KDE 3 lover, I like TDE, but as user of a
distro different of Ubuntu, I am not comfortable with the
Ubuntu reminiscences dragged by TDE project. For example,
the KDM defualt wellcome message (
http://bugs.trinitydesktop.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=617
), the 'My computer' and 'Menu T > System menu' icons (
http://bugs.trinitydesktop.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1195
), and all problems around the use of su instead of sudo
(for example
http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/?0::1470 ) in
the no-sudo systems (the vast majority of distributions).
Are you using TDE <= 3.5.13? We've done significant branding issue work since then.
The GIT version is practically free of all such branding problems. The upcoming 3.5.13.1
SRU release should be free of most branding issues too.
Please let us know if you use the nightly GIT packages and you see these branding issues!
IMHO I think it would have been easier and cleaner if
TDE
forked directly of the
kde.org source code tree or from a
distro compilation packages not so manipulated or customized
as Kubuntu do (for example
http://snapshot.debian.org/package/kdebase/4%3A3.5.10.dfsg.1-2
)
We can't do anything about "would have been easier." What happened,
happened. We can fix what we have, however. :-) Yet we need continual feedback from users,
otherwise we won't see all of these branding issues. Not every person involved uses
every app or uses various apps to the same degree. This is also true with i18n files. Only
users of non-English languages will notice those errors. :-)
