People DO look for things via Google. Trinity, as opposed to the original KDE-Trinity, was an unfortunate choice of name when it comes to search engines, and nowadays it usually does come to search engines. Perhaps determinedly call ourselves TDE _not_ Trinity. After all, the K in KDE didn't mean anything.
Lisi
Trinity (not Trinity Desktop) is not a dangerous program. It is a kernel fuzz tester, that calls system calls at random and it is intended to be used to spot bugs otherwise difficult to detect. Having said that, the name in not a fortunate choice, since it partially match with Trinity Desktop Environment, which as raised by Mark it can generate confusion among new users. So we just need to make sure we always refer to TDE either as TDE or Trinity Desktop Environment or at least Trinity Desktop.
As for the K in KDE, it initially meant "Kool", from which the make KDE. Cheers Michele

I understood it was just the letter before L in the alphabet. After all, Kool is not a word. ;-)

I was told that in ancient times CDE ruled the world and KDE was sent out to break it's world domination ... of course this could be a biased sight :-)

Taken from Wikipedia
"The name KDE was intended as a wordplay on the existing Common Desktop Environment, available for Unix systems. CDE is an X11-based user environment jointly developed by HP, IBM, and Sun through the X/Open consortium, with an interface and productivity tools based on the Motif graphical widget toolkit. It was supposed to be an intuitively easy-to-use desktop computer environment.[5] The K was originally suggested to stand for "Kool", but it was quickly decided that the K should stand for nothing in particular. The KDE initialism is therefore expanded to "K Desktop Environment"."

Because of the horror that suggestion would have produced in some of us. I _could_ not have used something called "Kool". But I didn't know that anyone had ever suggested it.

Who is the rest of 'some of us'?
I _could_ not have used something called "Kool".
Which is probably why they changed their minds.

Do you really want a list? How long a list? We are a not small section of the population still. (Note: I said "you", not "u", as does the majority of the people on this list.) I haven't noticed you saying "u".
Mind you, the Ford Ka still seems to be selling. But not to me.

Quite!! That is what I was suggesting. It was, I am sure, very off-putting to most of those choosing the name.

Sorry, don't get that bit.

To me neither, and not least because of the name!

I doubt it. Program/application names aren't necessarily meant to make sense or be 'real' words and quite frankly, I couldn't care less about a name, Kool Desktop Environment is fine by me, just as Klop, Knock, Kanything in fact would have been, as long as it worked, but hey, each to their own. I wasn't have a dig, just a bit of Christmas joviality.
Have a good one.

You clearly move in educated circles. "u" for you is one of my pet hates, and is used by the youth-aspiring middle-aged to be "cool" - or even "kool" - (and also, I believe by some young people)

You are, of course right. I am being no more logical or reasonable than the person on the Debian who wouldn't use MATE, although it was the perfect solution to his problems, because it has a Spanish name. But faced with a list, I would choose another.

And you. :-)

It is spelled "kewl". And, it has nothing to do with ' DANGEROUS LINUX PROGRAM CALLED "TRINITY"'

The word "Kool" has many meanings, but none seems particularly horrifying:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kool
Lisi, would you please explain why it bothers you and the others of whom you speak?
Mind you, the Ford Ka still seems to be selling. But not to me.
OK, now I'm really confused. The horror of "kool" might be due to a dislike of language corruption. But what's wrong with "Ka"? It has many different meanings, some of them thousands of years old:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ka
It was part of the ancient Egyptian idea of the soul:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Egyptian_concept_of_the_soul#Ka_.28vit...
Maybe it was borrowed by the Vulcans (or vice-versa) as "katra":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcan_%28Star_Trek%29#Katra
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surak
Lisi, please explain why "Ka" is repulsive to you and others. Please use terms that don't require readers to have your particular mental/cultural/ethnic context (whatever that might be).
Thanks!
Mark
