Hi everybody,
I was thinking about helping by testing TDE on the upcoming Ubuntu release (16.04). Do you think is useful? Should I test git, the nightly snapshot or 14.0.3? Or all of them?
Cheers, -- Diego.

There are basically four options:
1) Building from sources - git branch master corresponds to nightly-builds, git branch r14.0.x corresponds to preliminary-stable-builds.
2) Nightly Builds apt repository == development version for upcoming R14.1.0. However, this is not widely available:
https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Nightly_Builds
3) Preliminary Stable Builds apt repository. It contains preliminary packages for the upcoming R14.0.4:

4) Wait a few days for the official build R14.0.3.

Hi Diego, thanks for willing to help out. Any testing you can do and any feedback you can provide will be welcome. In addition to Slavek's comment: - R14.0.x series is the current stable branch. Changes here are smaller/safer than the main trunk - R14.1.x series is the next minor release. Changes here can be bigger, although most of the time they are quite safe. I run R14.1.x all the time and only occasionally (really occasionally) something is broken.
Cheers Michele

Did you mean "Wait a few days for the official build R14.0.4."?

No, he means that a new package version takes few days longer to land into the official R14.0.3, in case you decide to use 14.0.3.

Slavek is going to upload R14.0.3 for Ubuntu 16.04 soon, probably this weekend. I think this is what he meant. For the record, R14.0.3 was released about a month and half ago. R14.0.4 is not a released version yet. There are preliminary stable builds available that in the end will turn into the official R14.0.4, but they are (as said) "preliminary" :-)
Cheers Michele

I installed XFCE 16.04 fresh via HTTP several days ago, then 14.0.4. Only problem was gettys were all missing on vttys if booting into TDM, normal if only booting multi-user.target. TDE was good as much as I used it then, but I haven't since.
