Hi all!
I have these keybindings defined in .trinity/share/config/kdeglobals:
[Shortcuts] Redo=Ctrl+Shift+Z Undo=Ctrl+Z
And I have these keybindings defined in .trinity/share/config/katerc:
[Katepart Shortcuts] backspace=Backspace;Shift+Backspace delete_line=Ctrl+Y
So I assume, <Ctrl>+Y deletes a line in kate. But it doesn't, it perfoms "Undo" instead. This only affects TDE applictions (kmail, kwrite, kate ...) but all others are unaffeted. For example "geany" behaves is configured the same way (<Ctrl>+Z = undo, <Ctrl>+Y = delete line)
There is no match for "Ctrl+Y" neither in /etc/trinity nor /opt/trinity/etc/.
So ... did I miss something? Or is "Ctrl+Y" hardcoded somewhere to be "Undo"?

Have you restarted trinity since you changed the settings? If not try that...
and
Are you using 14.0 version or 14.1 version of Trinity?
I just used grep to search all of the .trinity directory and there was only one place that had delete_line and that was ~/.trinity/share/config/katerc
So, I'm out of ideas if restarting doesn't work...

But could you please test on your installation if you could o these remaps: "Undo" --> <Ctrl>+Z "Redo" --> <Ctrl>+<Shift>+Z "Delete Line" --> <Ctrl>+Y
And test what happens if you press (after logging out and logging in again): <Ctrl>+Y <Ctrl>+Z

OK I changed delete_line in the [Katepart Shortcuts] section to Ctrl+Y.
Logged out of trinity, restarted xwindows and logged back in.
Everything worked as expected. Ctrl+Y deleted the line and Ctrl=Z put it back. I normally use Ctrl+E since the finger stretch to Y is too long for either of my hands hand... <grin>
I don't think the problem is Trinity, but.... I don't know where else to look either.
The only other thing I can think of is this. If you are manually editing the katerc file instead of using Kate Configure, check really careful for any spelling, or punctuation errors, and possibly even capitalization errors on the line that says delete_line. I "think" that if there is such an error, anywhere on that line, that Kate will not complain but switch over to some hard wired default, possibly Ctrl+Y.
Also, grep the entire .trinity directory for delete_line. There should only be one and only in katerc. If there are more than one, that could be your problem.
This has nothing to do with your current problem, but your comment about macro programs applying system wide is not correct. Both KHotKey which is built in to Trinity and AutoKey, allow you to set things so that the hotkeys only work in "a" specific window... I am a AutoKey junkie and have not used KHotKey in over 6 years--but I did check and you can still specify a window in KHotKey.
Are you using the Ubuntu version or a different one like ArchLinux?
Storms are coming into my area, so I might be shut down for a few hours if it gets bad.

You pointed me in the right direction :-)
I found the littel checkbox "deactivate KHotKeys" in tcontrol. After restarting TDE the keyboard shortcuts work as expected.

[Shortcuts] Redo=Ctrl+Shift+Z Undo=Ctrl+Z
And I have these keybindings defined in .trinity/share/config/katerc:
[Katepart Shortcuts] backspace=Backspace;Shift+Backspace delete_line=Ctrl+Y
So I assume, <Ctrl>+Y deletes a line in kate. But it doesn't, it perfoms "Undo" instead. This only affects TDE applictions (kmail, kwrite, kate ...) but all others are unaffeted. For example "geany" behaves is configured the same way (<Ctrl>+Z = undo, <Ctrl>+Y = delete line)
There is no match for "Ctrl+Y" neither in /etc/trinity nor /opt/trinity/etc/.
So ... did I miss something? Or is "Ctrl+Y" hardcoded somewhere to be "Undo"?
