Why not? What's supposed to control whether any notification occurs that a USB stick or HD has been inserted? Are udisks and udisks2 incompatible with each other? Purging udisks didn't help. Fdisk finds them. Blkid finds too.

Linux hotplug mechanism seams to suffer from bitrotting/bad documentation/whatever. As I have experienced it, systemd-infected systems are affected the most, those without suffer less braindamage. Most likely it's a udevd-issue ...
