Most installations, RMB on desktop produces a context menu for the desktop itself.
In my TDE installations on Mageia, RMB on desktop produces no response. Is this
expected? Is there some configuration option where it can be enabled? I don't see
anything obvious to do so in KControl's mouse tab.

No, this is not to be expected. Have you checked that your mouse generates RMB events?

No, this is not to be expected. Have you checked that
your mouse generates RMB events?
My mice are connected to a multitude of multiboot PCs. RMBs work as expected on
KDE3, Plasma & IceWM, and in TDE in openSUSE, Debian, Fedora and others. Thus I
haven't "checked" in Mageia. Today's observations were on host ab85m,
with Mageia
8 (TDE), Fedora 32 & 33 (KDE/Plasma), openSUSE TW (TDE) & 15.2 (IceWM), Debian 11
TDE, Tubuntu 20.04 (TDE) and Mint 19.3 (Xfce).
