Do you have a link to the latest upstream tarball, and to a website with the last release date indicated?
Thanks!

Here is it:

2.8.1 is the latest version and the one you can see on the screenshot (and the one included in KDE:KDE3 repository).
Frankly after looking through their website, I think this is not viable software. The program in itself nay work, but the sound engine was last released in 2005.
As a avid musician who runs a amateur studio, this is not a useful piece of software in the Linux Pro Audio community. Currently JACK is the #1 interface for sound programs and without Jack Support, I don't think it is that useful. If you think of Jack as the "pipes and plumbing", notedit would be a faucet that isn't connected to any pipes.
I think it is not viable.

Not all people are professionals who use jack engine. Some people just want to compose a short melody or to teach notes their children (this also may be the case of a school class).

on that note, there are plenty of Jack based audio/MIDI sequencers which are up to date. Jack is invisible to the basic users, and a real tool for audio techs.
I am concerned that the sound engine will not be viable for much longer.

Indeed. We have Muse, Rosegarden, Creox, Hydrogen, KGuitar sequencers in our KDE:KDE3 repository. I just suggested Noteedit because it is the most simple to use and thus more suitable for a general-purpose DE rather than professional ones.

Jack is not usually installed on a general desktop.

My concern is that we don't have the resources to maintain every KDE3 app in existence.

Of course not. Ubuntu users do not need many apps.

This sounds like trolling. Please keep the insults off the list.
