Not bad news -- an opportunity for improvement!

this covered. I'll chip in.

As of right now we've raised $200 to cover the replacement chiller. We're
slowly getting there, any other volunteers? :-)

I can't afford it, and I know a majority are probably in the same boat, but I'm
going to do it because TDE is that important of a project and well worth it (or why are we
here?). I hate when I get asked for money and I hate having to ask for money, but I'm
old enough to know that projects cannot survive unless they have enough funding to at
least keep the hardware running and the lights turned on. So I'll break with my belief
of never asking, and just ask everyone, "dig deep and scrape together what you can
and send it to Tim." (good, now I feel like a beggar, but it's worth it :-)
Also, be creative and think of ways we can generate cash support for the project. Samba
has done T-Shirts and Coffee Mugs forever (I still have mine), a good design and go a long
way to selling itself, and with point-of-sale ordering, there is no risk in having to
order X amount in hope of selling X in the future, just have them made as they are
ordered. (there are probably a handful of things we can do that way)
I welcome all other ideas as well, somebody has to be good at something that can be
applied in this regard.

Tim, I am no expert in this, but what about crowd funding (for example Kickstarter or
similar)? Have you thought about it?

I work in industrial automation field and I know how a little bit of equipment can save
electronics againts power surge and storms.
Can you please tell me what is the power supply of this equipment? By that, I mean the
voltage and the current or wattage.
A storm can break the control part of the electronic, but not the motors, which is what is
important in a chiller.
There is probably a simple thing to do to put it back in working state, if you can provide
a picture or two (or 3) of the control part of the equipment.

Hi Alexandre,
Thank you for the offer! I am an electrical engineer by training, and as
far as I can tell the electronics did indeed burn out. However, I am
pretty sure the compressor rotor locked first and this is what caused the
burnout.
As mentioned in the Email I just sent, we reached the target for
replacement anyway so this is a moot point. :-) The new unit is far more
energy efficient than the old one, which will help to keep TDE running far
into the future even with syrocketing energy bills.
