While looking into a problem on trinity-users I noticed that TDE apps are not present in my Wheezy menus. Judging by the original user report, this is probably the case also in Mint.
I had not noticed this before because all the apps my users and I use regularly are either run from panel buttons or else are non-TDE apps such as LibreOffice which are present in menus.
It is not immediately obvious to me where the problem lies. Does anyone have any information on this or should I start trying to figure it out?

Hi Mike, for info, can you point to any app in particular or is it a general case? Cheers Michele

Hi Michele,
I thought kate, kedit, kwrite, and konsole were missing but maybe I was mistaken. I've been looking into the problem so maybe I accidentally updated the T-menu or maybe it was just me confused all along.
I'll touch base with the OP on trinity-users and see if I can get a better handle on things.
One thing that confuses me is e.g. /usr/share/menu/kedit-trinity says ``section="Apps/Editors"'' but the menu entry appears under Utilities/Editors in the T-menu.

The section for the menu is defined in the .desktop files in /opt/trinity/share/applications/tde (Categories=...)
Cheers Michele
It looks like the "menu" package which includes "update-menus" is only suggested, at least in r14 Wheezy.
Is there some other mechanism that is supposed to be updating menus when TDE packages are installed?
If not, I would suggest that something - perhaps "kicker-trinity" should have a hard dependency on "menu".
