Just to make sure we're discussing the same thing:

In Konqueror, Settings Menu, Configure Konqueror..., Behavior:

I enabled the "Show file tips" checks box and enabled the "Show previews

in file tips" check box. I saw previews of files.

Yes, exactly that.

No such messages in the xsession log.

I've enabled debugging with kdebugdialog to see those messages.

I'm using GIT from a few days ago.

Ok, so there is something wrong on my side. It seems that KService has some troubles parsing service files...
