I've enabled debugging with kdebugdialog to see those messages.
How do I do that?
Just run kdebugdialog, make sure that at least 7012 kio (KService*) and 7014 kio (KTrader) are selected, and then apply settings.
Ok, so there is something wrong on my side. It seems that KService has some troubles parsing service files...
Let's make sure we are performing steps the same. I noticed when I hovered
the pointer that I never saw any difference between the types of preview popups. As I never use the popups, I don't know what I should see.
Provide me the exact steps you performed and I'll then duplicate them
here. Select some files that are part of the standard installation.
Open konqueror and go to $TDEDIR/share/wallpapers, hover on a jpeg file and a tooltip with the file details (Name, Type, Size,...) appears. I'm expecting a small thumbnail of the image to be there but it's not.
Also I'm noticing now that by selecting the MultiColumn view I get the sama as the icon view while the other options all result in a Detailed view :/

In the builds from the current GIT tree, previews are working for all graphic formats (jpg,png,pdf...). Here is a screenshot:

I'm confused by the two check boxes: 1) Show file tips, 2) Show previews in file tips. There seems to be no difference. When I disable Show previews in file tips, I still get a popup with a thumbnail. What should I see when I disable Show previews in file tips?
There seems to be a relationship with KControl, Appearance & Themes, Style, Enable tooltips. When this option is disabled then I do not see any previews in Konqueror regardless of the settings. I don't think many users will figure that easily. Is there a better way to make that more obvious?
I need a session restart whenever I change the check boxes. The changes do not occur in real-time within the session.
The thumbnail previews do not support svgz.

Okay, I see a difference. I always use Tree view and I saw no difference. In that view the two check boxes work the same. In Icon or Multi-Column view, there is a difference, but Konqueror has to be restarted or the check boxes have to be changed twice, as a toggle, to see the difference.
Seems perhaps the What's This help should clarify the distinction?
