Regardless, kmail must have an address either from the original message, your address book, or possibly an address you put in a custom template. I've never really used custom templates finding that the defaults served 99.9% of my purposes. If you put 'tde' with the trinity-devel address in your addressbook then all you type is 'td' and it will autofill. If you define a custom template, then you should be able to define a default 'To' address being the list address, but since this list already includes a 'Reply-To', your only need for it would be on new messages, since by default, replies will autofill with 'Reply-To'.
