The default Trinity KDM welcome message:
Welcome to Kubuntu at %n
Should be:
Welcome to Trinity at %n
The log file name should be changed to something like tdm.log to avoid conflicts with the KDE 4 KDM.
KDM defaults to using Secure Attention Key. This might cause havoc on systems not using PAM or whatever SAK is tied to. The default should be off.
I'll file bug reports against those.
More importantly for now, after disabling SAK, I am unable to login with the Trinity Login Manager. Even fails with root and AllowRootLogin=true.
The kdm.log helps very little but there are several messages such as:
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/0491199751/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc
QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
Any ideas?

From the default T-Menu I can't start KWord or KPresenter. I can start other KOffice apps from the T-Menu.
I can't start either from KRunner unless I use the %u parameter. I can start either with no parameters from Konsole.
When I start KPresenter from KRunner with the same command as in the T-Menu, kpresenter %u, I receive a message box that says:
Could not open
Reason: the file does not exist.
When close KPresenter I see the following message:
The document '%u' has been modified.
Do you want to save it?
I can get both KWord and KPresenter to start from KRunner if I use the full path.
/opt/trinity/bin is the first directory in my search path.
I can get both to start from the T-Menu if I modify the menu to use full paths.
I don't see anything in the desktop files that is different from the other KOffice apps.
Can anybody else confirm this behavior? Anybody know where to troubleshoot?

My main concern regarding Konqueror as a web browser is one of
security. I may be wrong, but my experience, with Slackware at least, is
that the browser is part of KDE, and that there are no security updates
for it. The only time it gets updated is when you install a new version
of KDE. Since most web browsers require updates every few weeks, or
sometimes after only a few days, I would like Trinity to have the ability
to install security updates for the web browser, just like I can with
Firefox, without having to update the whole D.E. or even the 'base' package.

Cascio talking about "updated qt3 packages for openSUSE" and to Robert Xu......So I am sure
something is happening....but I'd dearly like to know "when" there could be a release.

I realise this is sort of "out-field",but the Trinity web site has lots and lots of examples of the
packages for other distros but never one for openSUSE.
I'm not really, really a programmer but I have used openSUSE for years and I know if something wrong
is the DE or the OS......And I can fault find simple tasks and problems. Currently I am using
openSUSE 11.3 with KDE4.4.4 running in folder view and all special effects turned off. It's
remarkably fast and very, very, very stable.
Can anyone tell me when a package will be ready for openSUSE of any version ? I think Robert Xu
(if I have that name right) was working on this, but so far I have seen nothing come out - and this
is not a reflection on Robert as I am sure he has his hands overfull like the rest of you Trinity
developers.

Trinity while using my favourite distribution.

While discussing about kdm, it has been found that cmake (in kdebase)
doesn't detect the crypt function. (A patch has been sent.)
I noticed that the same function isn't detected in kdelibs, as well
than other functions (alloca and dlerror). I reported a bug for this
(http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=654).
In comparison, I also found that autoconf, in kde 3.5.10, is detecting
those functions.
That makes me think that there's probably other errors, in the cmake
configuration, in other parts of Trinity, and that it would be useful
to take a look in the whole tree of trinity.
What do you think?

I've recently subscribed to Trinity mailing lists, and would like to introduce
myself.
As many others here, I'm a long time KDE user. I don't want to rant about the
current state of KDE4; let's just say that now I feel no more "at home" in KDE
community.
I like the ideas and spirit of the Trinity project, so I would like to offer
some help in my spare time... which is unfortunately very few. :(
But anyway, at work I maintain a minimal, server-oriented openSUSE derivate
distribution, so I know how to manage RPMs, specfiles, and building problems.
And I've also worked to projects both in C and C++ some years ago, so I hope
to contribute some bug squashing too.
I would like to help with RPM packaging for openSUSE.
In the OBS site I've found the projects by Robert Xu. Are there other efforts
or other people working on it? May I ask what is the current state, and how
can I help?

Howdy,
first of all thank you all for keeping KDE3 alive and kicking and for providing
packages for the various distributions.
I finally got too fed up with Mandriva and was looking for a better alternative.
OpenSuSE 12.1 is really great, but, alas, there are no trinity packages
available, yet. Having seen the F15 and 16 packages I played with that. 3 days
ago there was no F16 yet, so I downloaded the TDELIVEF15.iso and share my
experience, which unfortunately goes for yesterday's release of the F16 live CD:
The CD is severely broken in many ways:
* Both CDs cannot launch the live installer from the desktop. It is therefore
necessary to open a terminal, allow root to use the X-server by xhost + and
start /usr/bin/liveinst manually.
* The setup cannot be completed, because the default runlevel is 3. One needs to
log in as root and start init 5 to get to the window manager.
* TDE does not recognize one's old settings from a previous installation of
KDE3. I have linked .kde3 to .kde in hy /home and I wonder whee those settings
used to resid, or has TDE wiped my .kde? Not good.
* The F15 CD cannot even log into the display manager at all. It is missing a
critical package: for PAM, some gnome package.
* The F15 CD misses the critical step of adding a regular user. I needed to
manually adduser.
* I can't get compiz to work at all, no matter what window decorator I use,
neither gtk nor KDE4 works. I wish you would add the older compiz 8.6 to
trinity, together with kde3-window-decorator.
* Laptop management is totally broken. The ACPI-helper setup uses an
Ubuntu/Debian specific command, which simply doesn't work on any other
distribution. dpkg-stat-override can't possibly work on Fedora. Currently I need
to manually put the machine to sleep. Also, /proc/acpi/sleep is deprecated in
recent kernels. Please find a way to use KLaptop for SuspendToRAM
* Trinity misses a working NetworkManager applet. I currently use nm-applet, but
I can't make it reside in my system tray.
Having said all that, I am really relieved to finally have an up to date
distribution with my beloved KDE3 and I'd again like to thank you all for the
great work!
