Storage Media list in Dolphin

Hi everyone! Anyone who have tried my LiveCD would have seen that when you click on ''Storage media'' in Dolphin, you have to click on refresh to see the list of the drives you can mount. Also, if I do a ''safely remove'' on a usb key, I have to click on refresh to see the drive as unmounted. Ok, I'll admit that there is more important problems than this in the world, but It would be nice to have a kind of auto-refresh in that window. Is this problem caused by the underlying changes in Linux (with DBUS, UMOUNT, HAL, ...) or it is just a small problem in Dolphin? Does the next release of TDE will get better support for that? TDE and Wheezy

I am just about to install Debian and TDE on my husband's birthday present box. He is quite clear that he wants Squeeze. He likes stability and would rather have a reinstallation in the not too distant future than have something not called Stable. And he hates change! But not even the prospect of being left in peace far longer could tempt him into Wheezy. Moreover, he is adamant that he likes KDE 3 best. (I have given him various environments to try.) BUT - I'm the one doing it! If I can present him with a stable box, even if not a Stable one, he will be happy. So - how stable is Wheezy with TDE 3.5.14 nightly builds? I get the impression not quite. But using Squeeze means opening the box and putting an extra network card in in order to be able to install it. (Or anything else with a kernel < 2.6.34.) I just want to be quite sure in my mind that Wheezy won't yet do, before I start opening boxen. Thanks . Lisi

PCLinuxOS Live CD

Hi Alexandre, I've now got your live CD installed on my machine... I'm quite impressed though I do seem to have moments of very odd behaviour. For instance I used "Network Center" to disconnect my wired ethernet prior to doing some other things. But didn't reconnect before I shut the machine down. Starting the machine up this evening I discover that I now have "Dolphin" started up and three instances of "Gkrellm" all on the same desktop. Most curious ! Things work mostly as I expect. installing trinity on wheezy.

Hi, I am having trouble installing trinity on wheezy. I tried adding the sources for sqeeze to my /etc/apt/sources.list but that did not work because of dependency problems. I then changed those lines from squeeze to wheezy. Unfortunately that only worked half way. There is no build-deps built for wheezy available so I removed those lines. When I try and install kdebase-trinity it does not find the package. I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 with Slavec's Trinity 3.5.11.1 backport repositories. For some time now -- since the 'official' release of 3.5.11.1 -- I've only been seeing Ubuntu updates. There has been no Trinity updates. I've been meaning to ask here what I should've done to move to the more 'official' Trinity repositories. PcLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster release ready to download!

Hello everyone! My PCLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster is ready to download! I call it non-official because it doesn't come from the PCLOS team and since it contains software coming from outside of their repos, it is also not supported by them. It can be seen as a whole as the much-loved PCLOS 2007, but fully updated and upgraded. It is a complete system that can be used as a LiveDVD or it can be installed (from the LiveDVD). Fedora17 + Trinity usage repport

Hi all, The display is very "unstable", and I have, from time to time to reconfigure the display at 1280x1024. I guess the problem comes from XOrg. Sometimes there are one or two small windows indicating changes in definitions, but it is incomprehensible, at least because they overlap (!). Problems related to the BIOS and memory usage, if I understood correctly, previously caused the message "Press Ctrl + D to continue" in console during the system start. If I remenber correctly, the kernel (?) said that there was some cheksumm error or so, in the block of memory. I just had now, after a soft restart, to press the hardware "Reset" button (cold reset) to get out of an endless "memory dump", in the console... The "Instability" on the definition of the display may come from there, too, because the hot reset does not give the same results as the cold reset. I am ready to believe that Grub2 is (again) involved. I looked phosphorus savers unnecessary for LCD screens, but fun to watch, a little. I noted that they speak of KDE in "Banner", the default saver, and "Fireworks" (if I'm not mistaken). After selecting Atlantis (Open GL), I had to press the "Reset" button on my machine to get out of the situation. Is it a lack of patience? Too bad "Ctrl + Alt + Backspace" has been removed for safety reasons, and that any other possibility to kill X no longer available without disconnecting the computer. A look at SysGard: I did not find the CPU temperature sensor... Regarding the language used, the applications of "current" user are in english. Only "Root" applications are in French. I wanted to try to run: yum install trinity-i18n-French as simple user, but of course I did not have the rights, while SELinux is still "disabled". Surprised to see a different graphic "style" in a window, I investigated and found that it was a Nautilus window. I did not know Nautilus: it is the "Finder" of Gnome! I do not remember how this window had been opened. There is an icon in the closing Trinity window. This icon is KDE's. There's about a second between the graphical opening of a dialogue and the associated KDE sound! What should I do for the "Via8237" (in my case) to be selected instead of "Pulse Audio", in kmix? Hi All, I'm french (nobody's perfect), living in Peru and using usually a Spanish keyboard, with a french "writing" system. For historical reasons, the marking of my keyboard is U.S., and this is a chance in the case of this bug, because, at the time of the "login" (with Gnome, see previous post), the system interprets the keyboard as U.S.! Network configuration does not work. I tried kcmshell [kdeinit] kcm_knetworkconfmodule in a super-user console, but after validation, a dialog asking to wait opened, and the situation was infinitly fixed. Now, I have no network. Hence the question: how does one configure the network from Trinity, a console and / or from Gnome with Fedora? Note that I did not re-boot after this problem, so, I dont know if the network configuration is definitively lost. More general problems: At the time selinux was still anabled on the targeted system, I tryed some "sudo" commands, and it did not work because "user is not sudoers". How a user that comes from WindOverDose or did never study the use of selinux can react to this message? I guess each of you, dear ADVANCED users, had been confronted to a ALMOST functional system, at the "boot" of a 2.6.33.x kernel (ie). Investigating, you discovered that it was because the kernel can not insert modules of a system 2.6.26.x (ie)... I feel that this is the case Grub2! I guess Grub2 loads a kernel (the one of his host system probably) then made his small business to finally boot which corresponds to the user's selection. Booting without removing the old kernel. I suppose that because Grub2 only starts the host system it is installed in! It is then ridiculous, when installing a distribution, to scan all disks and all partitions, for offering to start (linux) systems that they contain! Imagine the frustration of a user who can not re-boot the system he use everyday! Luckily, I boot my everyday Oss 11.1 system from a CD. There is a more general congruency Linux problem: why the shell does not interpret "media:/whatever/whatever"? More generaly, I have some doubts: is there a developer that use the systems on which he works for everyday? Please, note that until here, (I think that) the testing on a virtual system does not help developpers to see these problems... I have not managed to transfer all my mails from KMail 3.5.10 release 21.13.1 to TDE 3.5.13. Could someone help, please? Did I dream ??? Konqueror being open on "a hard disk / partition", that is to say, URL display beginning with "media:", the hidden directory ".Mail" was not reflected in the list while the directories named ".m*" (as ".mozilla", for example), appeared! This was not the case for a Konqueror window with URL displaying "/home/user", for example. There were true questions in this post: - how does one configure the network from Trinity, a console and / or from Gnome with Fedora? - Is there someone that could help me transfering mails from KMail 3.5.10 release 21.13.1 to KMail TDE 3.5.13?
