kmix and usb soundcards?

On a Devuan 5 system with TDE as the only desktop, I have a Roland Rubix as soundcard. Desktop media icon preview turning it off?

The crash recovered almost instantly and I haven't seen any repercussions. Except... Now when I leave the mouse pointer over a media file icon, it starts to play it. The media player is not launched, it's just done as a preview. I found under "properties > preview" a "play automatically" check box, which I have unselected. I tried toggling that, but it did not work to stop the mouse-over preview. Can someone point me to where to turn this feature off globally? Naming for the mascot

Hello! I made a sandbox for the Trinity Desktop Project Wiki with information about the 'Tonqi' mascot, but as you've suggested, they're unsure of the name 'Tonqi'. dropbox system tray disappeared

Hi all I am running Ubuntu 24.04 and 4:14.1.3 I have been warned in the last weeks the support for the system tray might be dropped and as of today it did. While in Ubuntu with the native Gnome desktop the tray is still visible, in trininty it is not. Is there anybody using Dropbox and the file synchronization? Did anybody find a workaround. For me this is a real loss because I relied quite a bit on it. Dropbox still works but I have no direct way of knowing whether a syncrhonization worked, how much space I am using, other than running the command line which is annoying Uwe Brauer

TDE menu color

Where in KControl is the TDE panel menu color controlled? I can change the panel color and background image, but my menu color is gray. How do I change that to black(ish) with white text? I am not much into themes so an extra clarification or two would be helpful. Thanks. :)

Konqueror and sftp

Hello, I use Konqueror as a file manager for remote files. I type "sftp user@ip -P port number". Example : "sftp ca(a)10.12.13.2 -P 94788 However, this command no longer works. Did I type the correct syntax? Thanks, cheers. André

Using Alien to convert .deb to .rpm

Does anyone here know how to work Alien? So far I have had no success converting a .deb package to .rpm so I can install it on my machine. Attached is a terminal session that shows what's happening. I tried sending a support request to the maintainer, but my email bounced with "joeyh(a)debian.org: SMTP error from remote server for RCPT TO command, host: muffat.debian.org (209.87.16.33) reason: 550 Unrouteable address". Using external player for system sounds; how do I pass arguments?

I want to play system notifications through Pipewire's pw-play due to having some issues with ARtS (high CPU usage, volume spikes when playing multiple sounds - I'll write a bug report later), but if I just specify 'pw-play' as the player in the Knotify settings it only plays one sound at a time, I'm presuming since it's run as a foreground process. I know that you can add an '&' to the end of a command in the terminal to spawn it as a background process, is there a way to do something similar here? 'pw-play &' doesn't work since I'm assuming the file argument is appended to the end (or if the sound data is passed through stdin, idk how this works). Help would be appreciated.

Various bug reports

Hi, Apologies if this is the wrong place to submit bugs. I initial tried reporting bugs via the Bugs link on the webpage, https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/issues, but it requires a login, and doesn't give an option to create a new account. I'm on Arch Linux, and after using Trinity for a few days, I noticed a few issues: 1. Dolphin is lacking the option to have a common display for all directories 2. Konqueror: maximum thumbnail limit of 100MB is to small by modern standards. I have video files that are measured in 10s of GBs for example... 3. Konqueror/Dolphin: thumbnails for basically all modern video files (example: mkv h265) are not generated. Would be nice to have a modern ffmpeg backend. 4. Thumbnails for JPEG XL and AVIF images are not generated. Similarly, they cannot be viewed at all. 5. Switching to another virtual terminal session (like a Plasma 6 session running for another user) and then switching back to the TDE session results in black screen, with only the mouse cursor visible. (Using SDDM.)
