I haven't seen a "Heads Up" here about a large, impending update.
Maybe there's something screwy within my system and/or my apt
configuration files.... I'll hold off on the update until I hear
back from someone.

Massive update has a simple explanation: I uploaded into my ppa a first
batch of packages to test for 3.5.13.2. It seems appropriate to prepare
changelog and send announcement...
