Sorry I didn't post here earlier, but I did get a working solution off the IRC channel. I actually commented out the LD_PRELOAD line completely, and after restarting the desktop, firefox has been working without a hitch again.

It's a Flash thing, unfixed for some time. Try
LD_PRELOAD=/opt/trinity/lib/kgtk/libkgtk2.so firefox
and see if that works ...
