I finally made it work from the command line by enclosing the filename in dbl-quotes. Otherwise it try's to open each word in the windows style filename which is full of spaces. Crazy, and it sure as tootin isn't an operating improvement, nothing points me to mpv to play an mp4. mpv does have one, I just found it thank you Mike, but there ought to be an alias setup that gets you mpv's man page when you type man mp4, and get nothing.
