Hello,
I would really like to do more testing of TDE R14 nightly builds on Ubuntu
13.04, but the TDE servers seems to be completely overwhelm since a few
week, especially since Ubuntu nightly builds LiveCDs are available. When I
want to update to the latest nightly build, it downloads at less than 56k
Internet speed, so I often have to cancel the download because I don't
want to wait for 15 hours for a it.
Is there some ways that could be considered to make faster the TDE
servers?
In the list of distros where nightly builds are available, I see
completely outdated versions of linux distributions. Is it still necessary
to build nightly builds for obsolete versions of Ubuntu, as an example?
This is done primarily to catch problems with TDE building on older
libraries. In other words, the nightly builds function somewhat like
LibreOffice's tinderbox system.
Also, maybe a weekly Ubuntu nightly build LiveCD could
be enough for its
purpose, making the TDE servers save on bandwidth and improve its
performance.
I could cut the LiveCD builds down to every 4 days if that would help.
Mostly though the TDE site gets a lot of normal Web traffic and I just
don't have the funding to increase the TDE server bandwidth unfortunately.
Donations would help increase server uplink bandwidth, but they are
almost non-existent nowadays.
One other option would be to allow the nightly builds to be mirrored on
the mirror system, however this will result in days of delay (possibly up
to a month if the entire archive needs to be rebuilt and re-uploaded). I
need to know the use cases of users who are installing the nightly builds
to figure out if this is a viable option.
