Can you make a little video of your settings for smplayer?
Or take screenshots like the ones I've attached?

Sure ... well, sort of. I can get ksnapshot to capture the screen for
smplayer's settings, but not for that drop-down menu. I have most of the
same items as yourself in the drop-down menu, although there are a few
differences. At present I have alsa set, but I have also tried pulse and
default, as well as sometimes other choices, but that's mainly what I do.
See attachment. If I can figure out how to capture the drop-down menu, I
will send that, as well.
