This is an old bug. It happened in kde3.5.10. I have two laptops still running kde from 2008 and the same thing happens. I guess it was never fixed and has somehow resurfaced.
I didn't know until I found the bug report. However, this bug never happened to me before, though, like I said, I'have been using krename regularly.
