I've wanted to do that, too. I was wondering how to do such a pull
request but first I will have to RTFM or other docs to teach myself how
to do it.

Yes, welcome. You can use the PR (git pull etc) to prepare patches. You can
ask Slavek or Michele to approve your status as contributor and you can
push changes directly or you can send me the information (patches) and I do
it.
BTW I was not meaning the stations.dat, but the desktop file. AFAIK the
problem with TDE is that it is too few people maintaining the code and some
things get outdated without even noticing.
So if you can summarize what needs to change and where we can save a lot of
time and update at least the underlaying data.
For me it is obvious that the desktop file (used in the kicker applet to
configure the stations) needs to be updated to match stations.dat
The question is what is the origin of stations.dat and if the stations there
are still valid.
Anyway I would prefer to move this discussion to Gitea
