When Thunderbird was added to the desktop, "Thunderbird" was truncated
with the 'rd' appearing on a second line. But when in the Properties, if
the name is changed to 'Thunderbird Mail', the word 'Thunderbird' then
appears entirely on one line. The monitor resolution is 1920x1080.

Probably the space between the words makes the difference.
You might try shrinking the Desktop font with Control Center => Appearance =>
Fonts; that might help.
