1. Think I'll skip Mint. I Googled 'mint 15 kaffeine' and the result page said 'kaffeine 1.2.2' which does not work. And I'm pretty sure they have the latest versions of 'Audacity' and 'WINE' which don't work. (WINE 1.6.1 won't run certain programs, and if I use Audacity 2.0.5 to edit an mp3 the new file sounds 'tinny' for some reason. I didn't have any problems with the older versions of WINE or Audacity) 2. I almost went with Vector Linux 3 months ago. I didn't know it was outdated multi-media wise. 3. I'm going to try TDE-Kubuntu, it has the version of kaffeine that I want. And the repo has WINE 1.4.0. Annoying bugs are [1] it doesn't complete shutdown or reboot automatically like any other modern distro (you have to halt it with the shutdown button) and [2] some gtk widgets are mis-rendered in the Trinity DE (such as synaptic, but the programs all seem to work). In general, the apps we know and love get broken in some versions and fixed again in others. Same with distros. That's why I try out and multi-boot lots of them. I still occasionally run Vector 6 "Kde Classic" with 3.5.10, but it's become useless for media now (even though it was great 18 months ago).
