I'm currently running KDE3 in openSUSE
12.2, but I'm considering
converting
to TDE. The instructions on your download page don't say anything about
migration considerations. Will the configuration information in my .kde
directory be used by TDE after the conversion, and if not, is there a
procedure for importing that data into TDE?
First time I did according to (not official):
Before you login into TDE, switch to tty[1-6] and login as user. Then,
'cp -a .kde .trinity', go back to login window, log into TDE, and look
around. If you don't like it, logout, go back to ttyX, and 'rm -r
.trinity' to start fresh. If you do the fresh start you may want to
copy or import only certain portions of .kde, such as kmail data.
OK I will write instructions on the Trinity's wiki about switching from
KDE3 to Trinity.
The important thing is that you can have both of them working at the
same time. If you want to use one, you must uninstall the other.
In short:
- install Trinity, following the instructions on the wiki
- From a text console, remove at least "kdelibs3" package; but it's
better to remove all packages from KDE3. (I don't know all of them)
- There is no automatic profile migration (yet ?). As Felix suggests,
just try to copy your ".kde" folder to ".trinity" and see if it works.
If not, you must remove ".trinity" and start from a new profile.
