Yes "hwinfo" gives me lots of info. None make any reference to a
wireless adaptor. However I did learn a number of things that I had no
idea about. Things like who actually made the mainboard and that the
CPU could/should be running at 3.2Ghz.
just trying to see what the operating system thinks is
in your box.
my strategy, and maybe someone else can check it out, is to see what
the software says is in your box, then see if there is a driver or
something that can make use of it. there's also looking up the specs
of the machine online

I much appreciate your help in trying to identify and get this wireless
adaptor working, but I'm struggling at the moment trying to cope with
ill health, work, and other problems. I don't wish to appear
ungrateful, but everything is working well. Having wireless
connectivity isn't too important at the moment.
