Hi
I'm trying to get skype sound to work but apparently the monkeys at MS
removed alsa support and replaced it with pulse, which is rubbish. Even
though I have pulse enable (pclos - ali's remaster), it still doesn't show
up. Is there a fix to re-enable alsa or the like?

I havebeen using the skype-debian_4.2.0.13-1_i386.deb package which is the
last one with ALSA support, but it was constantly giving login errors when
changing networks.
I recently replaced it with the 4.3 (PULSE). Yes it took me also a while to
configure it, as sound was not working from the start, but now it is OK.
I agree with you that no one should enforce anything as far as there is an
option for free choice, but in case of Skype it was not even Microsoft who
did it. It was it's own personell who took the decision.
On the other hand if you have installed it, it is your responsibility to
configure it and make it work.
What I can advise is install "pulse volume control." as Felmon suggested.
You can reach the app via skype audio settings or pavucontrol from the
command line.
You have to be in a Test Call to be able to see some of the options.
It took me perhaps 1h to configure and make it work.
