Ha! It turns out that there IS a way to edit the list: Right-click on the To: text field and the last selection is "Edit recent addresses...". (I also discovered an entry in my address book for the bogus name, and after deleting that, the Recent Address entry works!

As much as I would dislike losing Konqueror as a file management tool, if TDE did not exist I would miss Kmail most of all.
