problems installing trinity in oneiric - ubuntu 11.10

Hi I downloaded ubuntu 11.10 and installed it onto a spare partition. I then followed the installation outlined on the TDE website sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install kubuntu-default-settings-trinity kubuntu-desktop-trinity after an hour of downloading kde 3.5.13 apt-get install was doing what it should have been doing BUT then I got the following error message: ~~~~~~~~~ start ~~~~~~~~ Extracting templates from packages: 100% Preconfiguring packages ... dpkg: sudo: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you requested: ubuntu-minimal depends on sudo. gksu depends on sudo. Refusing to remove sudo. dpkg: error processing sudo (--remove): subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1 No apport report written because MaxReports is reached already Errors were encountered while processing: sudo E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) ~~~~~~~~~ end ~~~~~~~~ When I logged out and back in again there was no sign of Trinity or kde3 in the login menu I presume I am not the first person to have tried to install kde 3.5.13 on ubuntu 11.10. Can anyone advise me? I presume this isn't a beta version of kde3. 1. Should the installation script have attempted to remove sudo? (I'm no expert but that doesn't seem right.) 2. How can I try and start the kde desktop? 3. For future reference, if I had installed Kubuntu 11.10 instead of Ubuntu would the download of kde 3.5.13 have been any shorter? Any help would be appreciated (though for the moment I'll stick to my trusted kubuntu 8.04). Thanks Lou
