I have downloaded the Debian package big-cursor
(I have sadly given up
on comixcursors for now - I'll try again in Stretch). It is definitely
there:

/usr/share/doc/big-cursor/README.Debian
/usr/share/doc/big-cursor/changelog.gz

But I cannot find a way of persuading Trinity Control Centre mouse
themes to see it.
Any suggestions? Or any other suggestions as to how I can get a large,
preferably red, cursor (but any large one will do) in Debian 8 and
Trinity 14?
Thanks.

You can install some package with "cursor theme" - for example
crystalcursors, comixcursors-righthanded, xcursor-themes,...
Thanks, Slávek.
I have installed both comixcursors (virtual package),
comixcursors-righthanded-opaque, big-cursor and dmz-cursor-theme. At that
point I saw no point in installing any more packages with cursor themes.
comixcursors installs only small cursors in the combination 8 and 14 (cf my
earlier correspondence on this list with Gene), so as I say I am waiting for
Stretch. Meanwhile I was trying to get one of the others going. Since I
have located big-cursor it seemed the most likely to succeed. I know that
dmz is there - it is in the control center list but will not "work" - but I
haven't narrowed its location down yet.
I'll try Nik's suggestion.
