And I used
# aptitude update
# aptitude install -t squeeze-backports icedove
instead of running apt-get as a normal user, which I would not expect
to have worked.
Here again is teh result:

Apparently, you install a version of backports (3.1.16) and not from the
mozilla team (10.0.3). Try to run aptitude install icedove (without -t
squeeze-backports).
