Don't mean to nag but I need a usable system.
Then don't use nightly builds!! They are still under development, and are more-or-less bound to be "a mess". Use the stable release and stick to supported versions of Ubuntu, and you will get on better. (11.10 with 3.5.13, I think. I am a Debian user.)
